Feedback panel SaaS, gift ideas, selling futures, industrial grade calendaring, ...
Hey,
this is Jakob Greenfeld, author of the Business Brainstorms newsletter - every week I write this email to share the most interesting trends, frameworks, opportunities, and ideas with you.
Let's dive in!
💡 Opportunities
“An idea for an AI tool I'd love to use — I upload chat history with a person, and the tool analyses it and suggests gift ideas for them. An even bigger market is probably corporate gifts. Analyse a person's public Twitter or IG to personalize their gifts.” - Artiom Dashinsky
“I want to put together a "product review panel" that gets early access to all @maybe releases/updates. But I want feedback/conversation to be 1-to-1, not just a big Discord chat. Email sucks, though, as it just gets buried in w/ everything else. Is there a tool for this? I refuse to believe this doesn't exist. I don't need a bunch of complicated project management tools. This is basically a waitlist form + feedback management. Surely this exists. SURELY!!!!!” - Josh Pigford
“Spotify, except it's a single textbox where you describe what you want to listen to, and it generates it. It uses consenting artists' voices and sends them royalties.” - Amjad Masad
“I’d pay a lot of money to have music made in styles I like, by artists I like, just for me. NWA style music isn’t made these days, hip hop is drake (????!!! ) So do I just not have new music or is something going to change? I bet change” - Ben Tossell
“Plaid for DNS providers. It's incredibly annoying to manage DNS records for SaaS apps like Buttondown where you need to ask users to set records; even very technical ones will run into esoteric issues.” - Justin Duke
“There has been so little innovation in calendar software. The two meaningful additions to calendaring in the last decade have been: Calendly-style scheduling links and Cron’s “block event on [other calendar].” Give me tags, filters, automation, custom metadata fields, image attachments (like on Trello cards), a custom iOS keyboard for scheduling, GPT-based NL input, smart calendars (like smart playlists), meeting prep checklists, webhooks, and an easy to use API. Industrial grade calendaring!” - Max Schoening

👨🎓How to sell Benefits not Features.
You probably already know that it’s smart to focus on benefits not features in your marketing efforts. But actually doing this is often far from easy.
I learned a cool new way to think about this from the book “Sell Futures not Features” by Michael Killen. You’re doing it right, if your pitch is not directly tied to your specific way of delivering the result. Try to sell your product or service without mentioning exactly how it’s going to help achieve the goal. Otherwise it’s far too easy to overemphasize technical details customers do not care about at all.
In general: Results ≠ delivery. A car (the delivery) is not the only method of delivering the results (getting to another location).” Electric windows aren’t the only method to keep you cool in the car. A Yeti tumbler isn’t the only method of keeping your drink hot. A Microsoft Surface isn’t the only laptop on the planet.
Read this: “Warning: You'll need to buy an entirely new wardrobe Customers are furious with us because they've lost so much weight (and kept it off) that they have had to buy a new wardrobe of clothes, because nothing in their old wardrobe fits anymore! Your friends and family are going to ask what your secret is. In fact, it's going to become a regular part of your daily routine to explain your transformation. How come you've got so much energy now? How come you look so good? Why do you sleep so well? It'll be up to you if you tell them the truth of course! Imagine being able to still eat your favorite food, lose weight and get fitter in the process. No diets, no pills, no awful machinery. And best of all, it's so simple that anyone can do it. No tricks or fads. Just better sleep, less fat and more energy. Doesn't that sound better? Don't you deserve a healthier happier life?”
Any idea what product they are selling? It could be a handful of things: Weight loss pills, personal trainer, gym memberships, group coaching, cookbook, etc. The product was never mentioned. The product was never brought up in that ad copy, but you can feel how persuasive it is, right?
🧲 How to become a luck magnet
“There's a simple principle that has made me a luck magnet.
So much good shit always seems to find me. Incredible people. Opportunities to make money. "Bucket list" experiences all over the world.
Here it is: If there's something that would help another person, share it with them.
If I discover something rad, I feel a true sense of duty to share it with others - without expecting anything in return.” - Khe Hye
